What happens to a pipe while bending

When the pipe is bent, the steel will undergo physical changes. the outside of the pipe wall will become thinner and this change is caused by material surface stretching. The inside of the pipe wall will become thicker, because of the material compressing.

What tooling needed when bending a pipe

The pipe bending program is set up in the computer and the feeding length by the CNC pipe bender will do automatically. At the head of the machine, there is a set of bending tooling, including bending die, clamp dies, pressure dies, wiper dies, and also a mandrel inside of the tube at the bending part.

According to different pipe forming, some pipe bending only requires one layer bending die, but some require multiple stacks of bending die, this is used for bending the pipe at the given radius provided by the customer.

• A clamp die is used to hold the pipes in the position while bending.
• The pressure die makes the pipe and bending die fit together tightly.
• The wiper die can effectively prevent the inside of the pipe been wrinkled.
• Mandrel inside the pipe at the bending part can effectively prevent the pipe been collapsed.
